As the capital of
Belgium, the seat of the Belgian Royal Family and administrative
centre of the European Union, Brussels is a lively, modern and
cosmopolitan city, busy with tourists and visitors on business.
The city’s architecture is a mixture of contemporary skyscrapers
and splendid medieval, neo-classic and art nouveau buildings.
The Grand Palace in the centre of Brussels, around which many
17th century buildings are located, is considered one of
Europe’s most beautiful medieval squares.
The centre of the city is divided into two distinct areas – the
upper town offering chic shopping in stylish boutiques and a
wealth of culture in its grand museums – and the lower town with
its magnificent medieval heart.
Brussels is well known for its beer, waffles and of course
chocolate.
